World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry has invited members of the bicycling industry to a presentation at Eurobike in Friedrichshafen, Germany to discuss the rising demands for corporate responsibility in the social and environmental spheres.

The bicycle industry is facing a growing emphasis on corporate responsibility, often referred to as CSR for corporate social responsibility, in the supply chain. Some big companies are already active, but the bicycle industry consists of many small and middle-sized companies who need to start from scratch and find strategies. They do not have the resources or the knowledge to set up an own system for monitoring all suppliers. On the other hand, it is also not in the interest of the suppliers – who in most cases work for several customers – to be confronted with many different assessment and monitoring systems.

“I am convinced that the WFSGI can support to create synergies on Corporate Responsibility within the global bicycle industry by combining the assessment, follow-up and monitoring of our suppliers to dedicated professionals working for an independent company in this field,” said Jeroen Snijders-Blok, COO Accell Group and Executive Board WFSGI. “This is a unique opportunity to join forces on CR. We are responsible but not able to act accordingly as individual companies.”
