The Winter Mountain Games presented by Eddie Bauer, returns to Vail, Feb. 8-10, 2013 for the event’s sophomore edition. The 2013 celebration of winter mountain lifestyle and adventure sports will include free street concerts, an interactive expo area and a dozen winter sport competitions in Nordic skiing, ice climbing, snowshoe racing, snow biking, ski mountaineering, telemark skiing and more.

“Based on the success of last winter’s Mountain Games, we are committed to continuing with the event,” explains Michael Imhof, vice president of sales and operations for the Vail Valley Foundation. “This is an event that we believe in and one that showcases an element of winter sports that is not often seen by the public. We are extremely fortunate to have a number of key sponsors that share our passion for the Winter Mountain Games.”

Highlights of the 2013 Winter Mountain Games include head-to-head ice climbing competitions, the country’s largest ski mountaineering race, on-snow mountain bike races, and a big air competition with bikers and telemark skiers flying simultaneously off huge snow jumps. All competitions feature pro and amateur divisions.

This year’s expanded music lineup is already locked in, offering up three free concerts throughout the festival. Ana Sia and Kraddy will start the weekend off with a night of high-energy electronic music at Thursday night’s kickoff party at Checkpoint Charlie. Friday night’s entertainment will feature Denver’s own Flobots, bringing a mix of rock, funk and hip-hop to Checkpoint Charlie. Headlining the weekend on Saturday night at Golden Peak will be John Brown’s Body with their unique reggae sound.
