Eastern Mountain Sports promoted its COO and CFO Bob Mayerson to president as part of a series of senior management promotions at the regional outdoor retail chain.

We had a phenomenal year, said Eastern Mountain Sports CEO Will Manzer, who remains the retail chains chief architect. Bob engineered a financing package for this company that is unparalleled and put us in a position of great strength. The board and I wanted to recognize him for that.

Mayerson, who has been with Eastern Mountain Sports for more than three years, has more than 25 years in operations, retail and financial management experience, having held key executive positions at both Staples and PepsiCo. His promotion means he will expand his operating role to focus on selling and operations, including determining where, when and how to open and close stores. His portfolio now includes finance, real estate, logistics and distribution, finance and IT.

Eastern Mountain Sports also announced that Ted Manning has been appointed EVP for merchandising and retail marketing. Manning will play an expanded role in the companys retail marketing initiatives.

With more than 17 years at Eastern Mountain Sports, where he started on the floor, Manning remains the lone lifer in senior management ranks. His prior title was VP merchandising and general merchandising manager.

Scott Barrett will assume the role of VP e-commerce/strategic business development. Barrett has led the marketing teams at Eastern Mountain Sports for more than five years. Now he will also be responsible for all online e-commerce and strategic business development.

“By appointing Scott to this position, we are putting a stake in the ground, signifying our commitment to ensuring that Eastern Mountain Sports emerges as a leader in multi-channel retailing,” said Manzer.
Eastern Mountain Sports now has 64 retail stores in 12 states.

“We did more than survive in 2009; we thrived under what proved to be dire economic circumstances,” added Manzer. “I am especially proud of our entire team for meeting those challenges, delivering outstanding results and taking care of our customers more capably than ever before.”
