During Outdoor Retailer’s Summer Market, Eagle Creek will offer a “super-pro-deal” price to attendees who bring in previously owned wheeled luggage to exchange. The purpose: Exchanged items will be donated to local homeless and women’s shelters in Salt Lake City.

Coined, “Gimme Shelter,” Eagle Creek for the first time brings its successful consumer luggage exchange program to the outdoor industry trade show to benefit those in need in Outdoor Retailer’s host city, Salt Lake City. The trade version of the luggage exchange program builds upon the 2005 consumer “Gimme Shelter” initiative. In its first year (2005), 150 retail doors participated in the U.S. and Canada, more than 500 wheeled luggage pieces were delivered to homeless and women’s shelters, and the program generated widespread media attention for the important work of shelters throughout North America.

“Introducing Gimme Shelter at OR will help to increase retailer awareness of and participation in our North American consumer program,” said Adam Ziegelman, Eagle Creek director of marketing. “Gimme Shelter is working. It contributes positively to those in greatest need, builds goodwill in our partner retailers’ local communities, and attracts new customers to Eagle Creek, lending yet more support for the communities in which we conduct business.”

During Outdoor Retailer, August 10-13, 2006, show participants may turn in any clean, empty and usable wheeled luggage at the Eagle Creek booth, which will later be delivered to women’s and homeless shelters in Salt Lake City. Incentive for trade participation, in addition to supporting the important work of local shelters, comes in the form of steep pro-deal discounts.
