Dillard's announced that sales for the five weeks ended April 3, 2004 were $691,009,000 compared to sales for the five weeks ended April 5, 2003 of $667,156,000. Total sales increased 4% for the five-week period. Sales in comparable stores for the five-week period increased 3%.

Sales for the nine weeks ended April 3, 2004 were $1,311,989,000 compared to sales for the nine weeks ended April 5, 2003 of $1,277,428,000. Total sales increased 3% for the nine-week period. Sales in comparable stores for the nine-week period increased 2%.

For the five weeks ended April 3, 2004 sales were strongest in the Company's Western region where performance exceeded the Company average trend. Sales were slightly above trend in the Eastern region and weaker in the Central region.

Sales in the men's departments and accessories, shoes and lingerie areas significantly exceeded the Company average trend during the five weeks ended April 3, 2004. Sales in children's were inline with trend and sales in women's and juniors were slightly below trend. Weaker performances were noted in cosmetics and home with each category performing significantly below trend during the period.
