Dick's Sporting Goods will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony to formally announce the expansion of its Midwest regional distribution center in Plainfield, Indiana. The expansion will allow Dick's Sporting Goods to service up to 230 stores from this location, compared to 100 stores before the expansion, and employ up to 700 associates at full capacity.

Dick's Sporting Goods acquired the Plainfield facility in June, 2004, as part of its purchase of Galyan's Trading Company. At that time, 190 associates were employed at the facility. Today there are 310 facility associates, and the company expects to employ over 400 full-time associates by this time next year. All full-time time positions provide competitive wages and complete benefit packages.

Bill Colombo, President & Chief Operating Officer, explains the mindset behind the expansion. “The decision to expand our Plainfield facility rather than build a new facility elsewhere was an easy one. The energy and pride that our associates bring to work every day convinced us that we could not go wrong expanding here.”

The project that expanded the facility from 350,000 to 725,000 square feet was managed by Brandt Construction, an Indianapolis based contractor, who employed as many as 150 associates to complete the building project. Dick's Sporting Goods' total investment in the project is approximately $35 million.

Lee Belitsky, Senior Vice President of Distribution & Transportation, comments on how smoothly the expansion project developed. “The Brandt Construction team was an outstanding business partner for us. Their experts brought the project in on time and on budget and worked very conscientiously with our management team at the facility to ensure our ongoing operations were not disturbed. I would also like to thank Governor Daniels and the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, Hendricks County Economic Development Partnership, and the town of Plainfield for their support in making this project possible.”
