Alleghany County’s Redevelopment Authority has approved a request by Dick’s Sporting Goods for a $7.25 million grant to be used for infrastructure work on its new headquarters, reported The Philadelphia Inquirer. The grant money will be used for roads, sewers, and other improvements for the 116-acre complex, which will be constructed near Pittsburgh International Airport.  Currently, DKS is receiving a 10-year, 50% abatement on county and local taxes to assist in the project’s development.

Likewise, the Pittsburgh Business Times reports that the 670,000 square foot complex, which will also include a 60,000-square-foot aviation center, will be built on land leased from the Allegheny County Airport Authority.

Dennis Davin, Allegheny County’s director of economic development, told the Times that the state funds and property tax abatement were justified because of the potential of the complex to create hundreds of jobs in the near future.

Mike Pehur, senior project manager with Allegheny County’s Redevelopment Authority, told the Times that DKS and site developer Horizon Properties LLC would ultimately receive around $11 million from tax abatements and grants.
