Diamondback Bicycles has begun shipping 26 of its models partially assembled directly to customers who order online through select retailer’s websites.

The 99% Bike Build program ensures delivery of high-end bikes that arrive at consumers’ doorsteps ready to ride following a few simple adjustments, such as installing a seat or front wheel, adjusting a handlebar or inflating a tire.

“At Diamondback, we recognize many of our customers may not have the time or inclination to buy a bike the traditional way,” said Phil Howe, VP of sales and marketing at Diamondback. “That’s why we worked closely with our retail partners to develop this innovative program. For the first time, ordering a bike online will not result in the delivery of a skeleton frame and parts that require a bike tech to assemble. The remaining steps to prepare your Diamondback are so simple, anyone can do it in a matter of minutes.”

Bikes will arrive almost completely built in an oversize box within five days of purchase. All bikes will include an assembly checklist of what was done to the bike during the building process, spare parts, and a tool kit.

This program stands to change the nature of online bicycle retailing in a way that benefits both consumers and retailers. By eliminating the need to assemble and tune a brand new bike ordered online, Diamondback makes its award-winning line of road, mountain and performance-hybrid bikes more accessible. Retailers can better engage and retain customers by offering a reliable and hassle-free online shopping experience.

“The simple fact is, more and more consumers are looking for a quality online shopping experience, and this program allows retailers to deliver that experience to their customers,” Howe said. “Customers get the bike they want, ready to ride, and retailers are able to expand the their offerings and cater to customers’ unique needs. It’s a win all around.”
