In order to help promote concussion awareness Defender Mouthguards is offering high school and college athletic directors free custom fit mouthguards for their starting quarterbacks.

“A properly fitted mouthguard is the best defense against sports related dental injury and helps reduce the risk of concussion due to mandibular impact.  A helmet and cage offer no protection for this type of injury,” said Joe Pipolo, founder of Defender Mouthguard Laboratories.  “We are providing mouthguards to quarterbacks at no charge with the hope that their teammates will follow their example and always wear a mouthguard when they step onto the field.”

Starting in May, Defender Mouthguards will be sending out self impression kits to all interested coaches and athletic directors to provide to their starting quarterbacks.  After the impression is taken, it is sent back to Defender Mouthguard Laboratories where dental stone is poured into the impression to create a stone model of the athlete's teeth.  Multiple layers of the mouthguard material are then laminated directly over the athlete's model, using high heat and pressure, providing the best overall fit and protection.  Defender's high heat and pressure lamination technology controls layer thickness and provides multi-layers where they are needed most; between the chewing surfaces of the upper and lower teeth, not between the teeth and the tongue.  Defender's Streamline Design provides a unique single layer on the inner surfaces of the teeth without interfering with the tongue.  This provides ease of breathing, uninhibited speech and maximum comfort.
