Crecera Brands, the parent of Sportsman’s Guide, The Golf Warehouse and Baseball Savings, reported reaching an agreement to acquire Salt Strong, an online fishing app serving the saltwater fishing community.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Salt Strong, based in Winter Haven, FL, is a membership-based service that utilizes AI and fishing guides to forecast the optimal times and locations to catch fish.
Luke and Joe Simonds, brothers and founders, will continue to run the business.
Joe Simonds noted in a blog post, “Yes, Salt Strong has officially been acquired. BUT this is NOT private equity, this is NOT venture capital, and this is NOT one of those gut-and-flip deals you’ve probably seen ruin other brands. Not only that, Luke and I are still running the company and will be for many years to come.
“This deal was different. The group that acquired Salt Strong were fans, customers and Insiders before they saw our numbers. They believed in this community, they love what we’re building, and they don’t want to change a thing,” continued Simonds.
Beyond leadership, Simonds promised “no changes” to customer service or the platform’s “mission, vision or culture” while indicating the deal would bring “more perks than ever.”
Simonds concluded, “We now have the backing and resources to take Salt Strong into its next chapter, Smart Fishing Spots upgrades, freshwater expansion, hunting and camping tools, and yes… even that ‘fishing theme park vision we shared years ago is back on the table. Luke and I signed long-term contracts to keep leading this movement, and we couldn’t be more excited about what’s coming next.”
