Sporting goods executives will get a chance to comment and possibly influence the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's (CPSC) priorities for fiscal 2016 and 2017 at an annual public hearing June 24.

The Commission conducts the public hearing annually to receive views
from all interested parties about its plans for the next two upcoming
fiscal years, which begins on October 1, 2015, and for fiscal year 2017,
which begins on October 1, 2016. The Commission is in the process of preparing the agency's fiscal year
2016 Operating Plan and fiscal year 2017 Congressional Budget Request.

At the hearing, the public can comment on:

  1. What are the priorities the Commission should consider emphasizing and dedicating resources toward in the fiscal year 2016 Operating Plan and/or the fiscal year 2017 Congressional Budget Request?
  2. What activities should the Commission consider de-emphasizing in the fiscal year 2016 Operating Plan and/or the fiscal year 2017 Congressional Budget Request?
  3. Whether the Commission should consider making any changes or adjustments to the agency's proposed or ongoing education, safety standards activities, regulation and enforcement efforts in fiscal years 2016 and/or 2017.

The CPSC's budget request for fiscal year 2016 can be found at www.cpsc.gov/performance-and-budget. Comments are welcome on whether particular action items should be a higher priority than others, should not be included or should be added to the fiscal year 2016 and/or fiscal year 2017 agendas.

Written comments and oral presentations concerning the Commission's agenda and priorities for fiscal years 2016 and 2017 will become part of the public record. The hearing will begin at 10 a.m. on June 24, 2015, and will conclude the same day. More information is available here.
