Copper Mountain and Camp Woodward have partnered to bring the innovative instructional practices of Woodward to the sports of snowboarding and skiing – and to the slopes of Copper. The partnership is part of an exclusive agreement that will bring Woodward Camps to additional Intrawest resorts in future years. Woodward is known by many as the world’s premier action sports and gymnastics camps, and Woodward at Copper will be the first winter-focused action sports facility bearing its name. The Copper facility will provide riders and skiers the same progressive learning opportunities that have previously only been made available to summer action sports like skateboarding and BMX.

Official programming has yet to be announced but Woodward at Copper will support the same philosophies of Woodward’s existing camps in Woodward, PA. and Tehachapi, CA.-to respond to, and grow, the unique skills and abilities of each individual athlete regardless of their ability level. Progressive teaching tools including trampolines, foam pits, resi-pits and bungee systems will be used to allow athletes to push the limits of their own abilities, and of their sports, in a safer, supported environment.

“Woodward has been looking into winter sports for a number of years but it could only have happened with the right partner,” said Gary Ream, president of Camp Woodward. “Bringing the tools we’ve made available to our action sports athletes and gymnasts to Copper will allow us to teach snowboarders and skiers better aerial awareness. We truly believe it will allow these sports-and the athletes that drive them-to reach new levels. We have a chance to create something truly special and we are looking forward to the opportunity.”

“We think this is going to be absolutely huge,” added Ben Friedland, Copper’s Marketing Director, “Not only will those visiting the resort have the opportunity to learn skills quickly and more safely before taking them into our terrain parks and superpipes, but chances are they’ll be doing it alongside some of the most recognized athletes in the world.”

Parties for both Copper and Woodward are working on a timeline for the facility’s opening. To date that timeline is not confirmed. Opening will occur pending the necessary governmental approvals, construction and programming development.
