City Sports will open its 21st national retail location in Burlington, VT on May 6.

Following the brand's official announcement about the Burlington project in December, City Sports has kept the community buzzing as plans forged ahead on its 35 Church Street store.

“We have been looking forward to the opening of our first Vermont store for months, as the Burlington community is the embodiment of the fun, active and free-spirited lifestyle that City Sports represents,” said City Sports President and CEO Jeff Connor. “The opening celebration is our official housewarming party, and we invite all area residents to join us on May 6 for what promises to be a fun day.”

Known for its specially curated selection of athletic apparel, footwear and equipment, City Sports aims to be the go-to haven for local active lifestyle enthusiasts with its Burlington location. The eco-conscious space – built utilizing reclaimed materials from previous stores – captures the spirit of the community with its design, featuring large windows on the Cherry Street side that invite natural light. The existing ceiling was also kept, and all lighting fixtures were replaced with energy-efficient bulbs.

“Our design philosophy was simple: build a store that is very much on-brand for City Sports and fits into the active Burlington community,” said Connor. “We definitely wanted to amplify our shared New England heritage and include attributes that are important to both brands, building an open, easy-to-navigate store with approachable and sustainable nuances.”

The ultimate athletic retail destination, City Sports Burlington features a multi-boutique feel in the form of designated shopping areas separated by activity and gender. Other store features include a compelling footwear assortment and adjacent running track, installed to allow customers to wear-test footwear in a real-life environment.

City Sports' Burlington opening event will take place on Sunday, May 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is open to all the public. A festive, family-friendly atmosphere is planned with live music and over $1,000 in prizes from City Sports. The Vermont Lake Monsters will also be on site, and are offering two free vouchers to a 2012 game for customers who spend $50 or more and the Key Bank Vermont City Marathon team will also be on site to raffle off two entries into the 2013 race. The first 100 customers to enter the store at the start of the event will also receive a free City Sports gift bag and have the chance to win the brand's signature grand prize: one free pair of shoes a month for an entire year.
