Cabela’s said it will open its newest store in Rapid City, S.D. at 5:00 p.m. local time on Thursday, August 7, 2008. Rapid City is Cabela’s second South Dakota store. The company also operates a store in Mitchell, S.D.


The 80,000-square-foot destination store will be part of a larger development project located southeast of the intersection of E. Mall Drive and Dyess Ave. in Rapid City. The development as a whole is expected to be approximately 600,000 square feet.


“South Dakota is rich with recreational outdoor activities,” said Dennis Highby, Cabela’s president and CEO. “Those who live and work in the region are passionate about hunting, fishing, camping and outdoor activities. And, because of the many tourists it attracts from out of state, the Rapid City area is a perfect fit for Cabela's.”


The Rapid City store will be feature Cabela’s trademark two-story Conservation Mountain and giant aquarium, a gun library, express cafe, general store, fly fishing shop and gift shop.


The general contractor is Minneapolis-based Kraus-Anderson Construction Company, one of the country’s top commercial general contractors and construction managers.

Store manager Mary Bollock will hire up to 150 employees. Store hours will be Monday – Saturday, 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m., and 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Sunday. The store address is 3231 East Mall Drive.
