Cabela’s Incorporated will open its first store in Alberta with a ribbon cutting at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 4, 2011. This is the just the second Cabela’s store to open in Canada.

The 6,500-square-metre (70,000-square-foot) Edmonton store is located at the Currents of Windermere, just off Terwillegar Drive and west of the Anthony Henday.

“For decades our loyal customer base in Canada has been growing,” said Chief Executive Officer Tommy Millner. “So it’s our pleasure to build our first store in Alberta – our second in Canada – to serve these dedicated outdoorspeople with increased access to the outdoor gear, employee expertise and the family-friendly atmosphere that Cabela’s stores have to offer.”

The Edmonton store will be built in Cabela’s trademark style that showcases the best of the outdoors in a spectacular retail environment. The building’s exterior will reflect Cabela’s traditional store model with log construction, stonework, wood siding and metal roofing.

When the doors open, visitors will be greeted in an open foyer with a massive stone fireplace, sporting the atmosphere of an inviting lodge. Hand-painted murals by Edmonton brothers David and Al Thomas and museum-quality taxidermy are just some of the unique store features.

The interior will highlight the company’s next-generation layout, which is designed to immerse customers in the outdoor experience.

Cabela’s stores are known as top-notch educational and entertainment attractions for every member of the family including:
