Cabela’s will open its newest destination retail store in La Vista, Neb., just south of Omaha, on Friday, November 3, 2006. The La Vista store is Cabela’s third location in its home state.

Up to 1.5 million people are expected to visit the La Vista store annually, making it one of the largest tourist attractions in the state. The 128,000-square-foot, large-format superstore will be located on a portion of a 137-acre mixed-use development located along Interstate 80 at the Harrison Street interchange. In addition to the Cabela’s retail store, the development also will feature an 80,000-square-foot convention center, hotels, restaurants and additional retail shopping.

A customer’s average stay at a Cabela’s store is 3 1/2 hours, with half of the visitors coming from outside of 100 miles.

“We are proud to bring the Cabela’s shopping and entertainment experience to our loyal customers on the Eastern side of the state,” said Dennis Highby, Cabela’s president and CEO. “Opening the La Vista store is a great way to celebrate our 45th Anniversary. It’s also important to us, and to the state of Nebraska, that the La Vista store will help keep millions of retail dollars in Nebraska, where they will benefit the local and state economies.”

Store manager Tim Lueck will hire up to 300 employees. Cabela’s is one of the largest companies in Nebraska, employing more than 4,000 in the state. In addition to its retail stores in Kearney, Sidney and La Vista, the company has operations in Oshkosh, Grand Island and Lincoln, Neb.
