Cabelas Inc. is on track to offer store-to-door deliveries in the fourth quarter, CEO Tommy Millner said at the companys annual shareholder meeting.

When we come into the fourth quarter, we believe were going to be live on what we call store-to-door, which will have, I hope, a meaningful impact, not only on customer satisfaction, but also our Direct and Retail businesses, said Millner.

The system will enable Cabelas to fulfill direct sales from its more stores when they have an item that is out of stock at the distribution centers used by its catalog and online operations. Cabelas expects to have 51 stores in operation by the end of the year.

When you place an order with us today, if it is not in one of our distribution centers, but, let’s say, we have 12,000 of them in the retail stores, do you know what we tell you? Millner asked his audience. We tell you, sorry, we dont have it. And in our view, that’s the greatest sin in the world to have the inventory and lose the sale.
