ATK is reported to be in advanced talks with MidOcean Partners to acquire the optics company Bushnell for roughly $1 billion, according to various wire and media reports.

Citing unnamed sources, Reuters reported ATK and MidOcean Partners had not reached an agreement.

Bushnell is a major supplier of binoculars, riflescopes, rangefinders, trail cameras, spotting scopes, illumination and other products sold through the outdoor sporting goods channel.

Since being acquired by MidOcean in 2007, the company has acquired several outdoor brands, including Primos Hunting and Night Optics.

While better known as an aerospace and defense contractor, ATK has a Sporting Goods segment that generated $358.3 million in sales in the first fiscal quarter ended June 30. The company said sales rose 28.4 percent over the year earlier quarter thanks toincreased volume and previously announced price increases for ammunition, partially offset by a reduction in military accessories due to completion of programs. ATK recently agreed to buy Caliber Company, the parent of 119-year-old firearms manufacturer Savage.
