Buff headwear will be mandatory gear for The Five Peaks ski mountaineering race in Breckinridge, Colorado on April 10, 2010. The Five Peaks is part of the Colorado Ski Mountaineering Cup Race Series (COSMIC). Buff, Inc. will be providing the group with 180 custom COSMIC Original Buff.

The first of its kind of the U.S., The Five Peaks is North America’s longest ski mountaineering race with 10,000 feet of vertical and five separate ascents in the Ten Mile Range behind and in Breckenridge Ski Resort. Eighty teams of two will skin, climb, ski and traverse Peaks 10, 9, 8 (from two sides) and 7. While The Five Peaks course will be demanding in terms of vertical and time, course loops are designed so that teams that dont wish to complete the final climbs will still enjoy a full day of high-alpine skiing. It’s the must-do race of the year.

“Buff is standard gear for me whenever I ski – it could be a headband or a neckwarmer day; a Buff always works,” said Pete Swenson, promoter of COSMIC Ski Series and Ski Mountaineering National Champion. “A Buff is the perfect accessory for ski mountaineering,” he added.

After The Five Peaks, there are two remaining races in the 2010 COSMIC Series: the San Juans Rando on April 17, and the Marmot Grind at Arapahoe Basin on April 24.
