The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. announced total and comparable store sales for the month of August decreased 1.2% to $85.1 million compared to $86.2 million for the same period last year. Year-to-date total sales decreased 2.1% to $622.0 million compared to $635.4 million for the same period last year. Comparable store sales decreased 1.8%.

James H. Baireuther, vice chairman and chief administrative officer, commented, “Product categories which performed well during August were women's special size apparel, shoes, fashion accessories, intimate, men's sportswear and furniture. The weakest categories were cosmetics, juniors and soft home. We are pleased that spring/summer merchandise is being liquidated on a timely basis as we transition into fall merchandise assortments. Our inventory is well-positioned and will be supported by a strong promotional calendar.”
