The Bon-Ton Stores' sales for the five weeks ended April 2, 2005 decreased 4.0% to $100.5 million compared to $104.6 million for the same period last year. Comparable store sales decreased 3.6%. Year-to-date sales decreased 3.5% to $175.3 million compared to $181.6 million for the same period last year. Year-to-date comparable store sales decreased 3.1% from the prior year period.

James H. Baireuther, Vice Chairman and Chief Administrative Officer, commented, “Given the shift of the Easter holiday from April last year to March this year, March sales were disappointing. The cold weather and snow during the month limited spring apparel sales. While March sales did not meet our expectations, we were pleased that some individual categories posted sales increases, namely, fashion accessories, home textiles, misses career sportswear, furniture, luggage and small appliances. We remain focused on managing our inventory and controlling receipts in line with sales.”
