Same-store sales fell 7.2% at The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. for the four weeks ended March 1, compared to the prior year period.

Total sales for the four weeks decreased 8.7% to $217.0 million compared to $237.6 million for the prior year period.

“February sales, while up against tough comparisons to last year, reflect continued weakness in traffic trends during a tough macro-economic environment,” said Tony Buccina, vice chairman and president – merchandising. “Categories that performed well included furniture, hard home, children’s and women’s large size sportswear. The weakest performing categories were missy moderate sportswear, intimate apparel, men’s and accessories. We continue to manage inventory levels conservatively based on current sales trends and are looking for a better read on spring sales in March.”
