For the first quarter of fiscal 2005, total sales decreased 1.0% to $262.5 million compared to $265.1 million for the same period last year. Comparable store sales decreased 0.6%.

James H. Baireuther, Vice Chairman and Chief Administrative Officer, commented, “We were pleased with April comparable store sales, particularly in light of the unseasonably cold weather hampering additional apparel sales. Certain key product categories performed well, including shoes, ladies' apparel, fashion accessories, men's sportswear and home.”
