Big Agnes has hired Bob Swanson as its Tent Line Manager. An industry veteran and well-known player in the shelter design world, Swanson will control creation and development of all Big Agnes tents, effective immediately.

Swanson’s industry roots stem from time at retail. After working in shops, he and George Marks founded Sierra Designs and, later, Walrus, Inc., which introduced hub systems into the lightweight tent market. Swanson remained with Walrus after it was acquired by REI, and spent several years designing Armadillo tents.

On his move to Big Agnes, Swanson comments, “I am excited to be working with the Big Agnes tent program. It is great to work with this young, dynamic company, which is a real player in the very competitive outdoor industry. In just a few short years, Big Agnes made its name.”

Big Agnes will introduce a number of new technologies and innovations at the upcoming Outdoor Retailer Summer Market. Most notably, Big Agnes is one of just three companies in the world to utilize DAC’s new Featherlite NSL Poles in its tents. This revolutionary tent pole system employs the most environmentally sensitive anodizing process available.
