Bauer Hockey reports that it has partnered with sports tech startup Bearmind to develop the next generation of smart hockey helmets. The collaboration “combines Bauer’s expertise in protective equipment with Bearmind’s advanced sensor and analytics platform.”

“As we continue our relentless pursuit of innovation around performance and protection, we are pleased to partner with Bearmind to advance our focus on head protection with an even greater focus on data and on-ice insights,” said Craig Desjardins, VP of Brand Management at Bauer Hockey. “We are looking forward to building this partnership in the years ahead to implement the data-centered learnings into our product line and bring more knowledge to our athletes.”

Bearmind’s head-impact monitoring technology was chosen after extensive testing in Bauer’s RD&D facility in Blainville, Quebec. Already in use with several teams, the technology has helped organizations in the Canadian Hockey League and professional European Leagues better understand head impacts and their effect on players’ performance and injury risk.

As part of this collaboration, Bauer will develop a CSA-certified helmet with integrated Bearmind technology for the 2026/27 season and approve the use of Bearmind’s external sensors on its RE-AKT 155 helmet for use during the upcoming 2025/26 season.

Bauer stated, “By unlocking athlete-specific data, this partnership will provide Bauer’s RD&D team with a deeper and more complete understanding of how impacts may occur and accumulate on the ice — not in theory, but in measurable reality. These insights will help pave the way for a new era of helmet development with the goal of being more adaptive and more protective than ever before.”

Mathieu Falbriard, CEO of Bearmind, said, “We’re proud to partner with Bauer to embed our technology into their helmets. Their deep experience and innovative approach make them an ideal partner as Bearmind continues to evolve. Together, we’re making it easier for teams and athletic trainers to adopt new technology without disrupting routines, all with the goal of supporting both athlete performance and health.”
