Backcountry.com named Young Lee as its vice president of product management, a post responsible for understanding, even predetermining, user needs and building easy-to-use products to meet them. Lee will lead the product management team and drive the performance of Backcountry.com’s interactive properties: Backcountry.com, Dogfunk.com, RealCyclist.com, HuckNroll.com, DepartmentofGoods.com, SteepandCheap.com, Bonktown.com, Chainlove.com and WhiskeyMilitia.com.


Young’s job will be to champion usability, user experience and the overall success of the websites.

“Backcountry.com has always had a great reputation in the industry, known for doing the right things great, so it was clear to me that I had to jump on the opportunity when presented,” Young said. “The people are smart and have a huge passion for what they do and sell and that is clear. Young brings 13 years of retail e-commerce experience to his new post. Most recently, he was a senior vice president for the stationery and design start-up, Minted.com. Prior to this, he held high-level e-commerce, product management and marketing positions at Global E-Commerce, PNI Corporation, TheMan.com and Sapient Corporation, to name a few. He spent 2004-2010 at The Body Shop, the last four years as vice president and general manager of e-commerce, during which time he drove channel revenues up 60 percent and profits 175 percent, outperforming industry trends. He holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in mathematics from UCLA.


“I have a background in math and analytics and a passion for great user experience,” Young said. “Coupling this with my experience working with many online retailers, I hope to bring a structured process of taking calculated steps that will enhance Backcountry.com’s e-commerce profile.”
