The American Sportfishing Association (ASA), producers of the iCast show, is reporting that President Trump has issued a Proclamation that removes previously-imposed Sec. 232 aluminum tariffs on fishing reels, reel accessories, and landing nets, among other products. The ASA said these changes went into effect on or after 12:01 a.m. EST on Monday, April 6, 2026.
The proclamation, titled “Strengthening Actions Taken to Adjust Imports of Aluminum, Steel and Copper into the United States,” modifies Section 232 tariffs on steel, aluminum,] and copper by expanding duties on some imported products while removing them on others, including certain recreational fishing equipment.
The ASA highlighted that the following products are no longer subject to Sec. 232 aluminum tariffs beginning on April 6:
- 9507.30.2000 — Fishing reels not valued over $2.70 each
- 9507.30.4000 — Fishing reels valued over $2.70 but not over $8.45 each
- 9507.30.6000 — Fishing reels valued over $8.45 each
- 9507.30.8000 — Fishing reel parts and accessories
- 9507.90.6000 — Fishing landing nets / similar nets
From April 6 to July 24 (when Sec. 122 tariffs are set to expire), the full value of the products listed above will be subject to the 10 percent tariff applied under Sec. 122, in addition to the normal MFN duties, according to the ASA reporting by the trade association’s Government Affairs team.
The ASA reported that there are four annexes related to the proclamation that impacted the HTSUS codes:
- Annex I-A: Heavily metal-based products face a 50 percent tariff, with lower rates if made primarily with U.S. or UK metal.
- Annex I-B: Moderately metal-based products face a 25 percent tariff, with reduced rates for U.S. or UK metal content.
- Annex II: Some previously covered products are no longer subject to Section 232 tariffs, effective April 6, including fishing reels, reel accessories and landing nets.
- Annex III: Certain industrial and grid equipment receives lower tariffs temporarily until 2027 before moving to standard rates in 2028.
The ASA is advising importers to review the proclamation and this spreadsheet, prepared by its trade firm Sorini, Samet & Associates, to determine whether any of their other products are affected by the proclamation.
