Six members of the American Sportfishing Association’s (ASA) board of directors were elected or re-elected to fill three regional seats and three at-large seats. Their terms begin Oct. 1, 2011, and they will serve two-year terms.


ASA’s board members may serve three, consecutive two-year terms.

Regional seats went to Martin MacDonald, Conservation director, Bass Pro Shops, Springfield, Mo. (re-elected), who will serve the South Central Region;Dick Pool, president, Pro-Troll Fishing Products, Concord, Calif. (re-elected), who will represent the West Region; and Aledia Tush, president, CB’s Saltwater Outfitters, Sarasota, Fla., who will serve the Southeast Region.


At-Large seats went to Dave Bulthuis, vice president of Sales, Costa, Daytona Beach, Fla. (re-elected); Paul Schluter, president, St. Croix Rods, Park Falls, Wis. (re-elected); and Gary Zurn, senior vice president, Marketing and Dealer Services, Big Rock Sports, LLC, Newport, N.C.


“These members bring a wide-range of industry perspectives to the board of directors which will well-serve the industry,” said ASA President and CEO Mike Nussman. “I look forward to working with everyone and thank them for their commitment to the association and the sportfishing industry.”


Dave Bulthuis, current board Secretary and Show Committee chairman, was re-elected to his serve his second, two-year term. Bulthuis plans to continue his efforts grow the industry and help ensure that the nation’s public fishery resources remain open to recreational fishing. Martin MacDonald was re-elected to serve his second, two-year term, and looks to continue to helping address the challenges facing the sportfishing industry. Dick Pool, who was re-elected to his second, two-year term, has previously served on ASA’s board and committees. Pool is dedicated in his support for the sportfishing industry and the association and is a recognized advocate for fisheries conservation. Paul Schluter, current ex-officio member, was elected to his first, two-year term on ASA’s board of directors. Schluter believes that a strong association is essential to protecting and growing the sport. Aledia Tush was elected to serve her first, two-year term. As an independent retailer, Tush brings 35 years of experience to the board of directors and wants to ensure the health of our nation’s fisheries and the industry’s future. Gary Zurn was elected to serve his first, two-year term having previously served on the board of directors and as chairman of several ASA committees. Zurn believes that a strong, financially sound association is best equipped to represent the industry and grow the sport.
