Alterra Mountain Company announced that Ron Cohen, Esquire, current president and chief operating officer, Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows, would return to Mammoth Mountain and June Mountain as president and chief operating officer, effective immediately.

Mammoth Mountain is the Alterra Mountain Company’s largest destination resort. Cohen will be responsible for overseeing its operations and for leading the developments planned for Mammoth Mountain.

Cohen, earned a law degree from Northwestern University in 1999 and practiced law for three years in Mammoth Lakes. From 2002/2010, he owned and operated Tioga Pass Resort in the Yosemite High Country. He became part of the Mammoth Mountain team in 2010 as director of government and environment and expanded his role to chief administrative officer and general counsel during that time. When Alterra Mountain Company was formed in 2017, Cohen was promoted to senior vice president and deputy general counsel and promoted to president and chief operating officer of Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows in 2018.

Cohen served on the executive committee of the Board of Directors of the California Ski Industry Association from 2011/2018, as Chair from 2015/16 and on the National Ski Area Association Board of Directors where he is currently serving as Chair of the Public Lands Committee.

Cohen will report to Mark Brownlie, chief operating officer, Mountain Division and Western Region chief operating officer. During his transition, he will be involved with the day-to-day operations of Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows including the Base-to-Base gondola project, destination renaming and rebranding and the hiring process for its new president and chief operating officer.
