Adidas Outdoor has added rock climber Claire Buhrfeind, 16, to its team of athletes. Buhrfeind is a six-time Junior National Champion in sport, speed and bouldering combined and last month took first place at the 2014 Clif Bar Psicobloc Masters Series in Park City, Utah.
At such a young age, Claire has accomplished so much, and she is a strong brand ambassador for us, said Greg Thomsen, managing director for Adidas Outdoor, U.S. She has the ambition to succeed, serves as a role model for aspiring female climbers and is an extremely driven athlete with a bright future. We look forward to watching her grow professionally and personally.
This past April, Buhrfeind claimed third place in the Sport Climbing Series Nationals in Santa Ana, Calif., and was one of the two youngest competitors to finish in the top 10. Additional accomplishments include: winning the 2012 Junior Pan-American Championship in Santiago, Chile; placing fifth at the 2013 Youth Worlds in Central Saanich, British Columbia, Canada; and placing sixth at the 2012 Youth Worlds in Sentosa, Singapore. In addition, Buhrfeind has bouldered the Diaphanous Sea (V12) and the Power of Landjager (V11) in Hueco Tanks, Texas and sport climbed The Ultraperm (5.13D) and The Madness (5.13C) at the Red River Gorge in Stanton, Ky.
Buhrfeind was born and raised in Plano, Texas and began climbing at the age of 10. She is a full-time student at Liberty High School in Frisco, Texas and competes and travels with Team Texas, the longest-running and most successful youth climbing team in the United States. Every winter, she goes bouldering in Hueco Tanks in El Paso, Texas, and in the summer, sport climbs at the Red River Gorge with Team Texas.
