Academy Sports + Outdoors has filed a lawsuit to prevent Gander Mountain Co. from promoting its classes as the Gander Mountain Academy, according to a report in the Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal.

The lawsuit claims consumers would be confused by the use of the word, “academy,” given Academy Sports + Outdoors presence in the marketplace.

As reported, the first Gander Mtn. Academy opened in February in Lake Mary, FL. Gander Mountain said Academy is the first civilian training facility to offer highly skilled instructors, a variety of comprehensive courses, modern multi-media classrooms, a live-fire range, and exclusive virtual simulation technology previously available only to military and law enforcement agencies, including the V-Range, which Gander Mountain said is the world's most accurate simulated firing range, and high-definition, multi-screen, virtual simulators that put students to the test in real-world self-defense and recreational scenarios.

Academy, which has more than 150 locations, mostly in the south and southeast.
