On the eve of its third season, organizers of the Jeep 48STRAIGHT winter event series have canceled the series after title sponsor and Chrysler subsidiary pulled out.

“With news that Jeep has decided to no longer continue its sponsorship of Jeep 48STRAIGHT, the company has announced that the 2008-2009 winter event series has been canceled,” reads a statement at the top of the series web site.

Event organizers have already canceled events in Telluride, CO, Squaw Valley, CA and Sun Valley, Idaho, according to a report in the Idaho Mountain Express and Guide.

The series featured ski and snowboard races, half pipe competitons, concerts and green education symposiums. It was televised nationally by CBS and drove up hotel occupancy rates at resorts where it took place.
