Hobbs Sporting Goods, based in Dublin, GA since 1968 and recently acquired by Jacksonville, FL-based Baker’s Sports, closed its doors on July 31.
The business, which operated a store in Dublin and a team dealer side supplying gear and uniform to high school, college and recreation department teams, was purchased by Baker’s Sports in 2024 and was no longer needed as part of the parent’s consolidation, according to Courier Herald Today.
Hobbs Sporting Goods was being run by Ellen Hobbs Ross, the daughter of Hobbs Sporting Goods co-founder Billy Hobbs, along with her brother Frank Hobbs and her husband, Chuck. Much of Hobbs’ staff will continue supporting the team dealer portion of Baker’s Sports in remote capacities. Chuck Ross is retiring.
The business was founded in October 1968 when brothers Billy and Harold Hobbs purchased Dublin Sporting Goods from Bob Holmes in downtown Dublin.
Hobbs Sporting Goods will hold a final yard sale August 10 through August 13 at 2310 U.S. 80 West in Dublin.
